I’m not even sure how long it’s been since I’ve done any gesture drawings, but they’re always good practice, & always a good thing to do when I don’t have a ton of time!
Yeah, I sort of dropped the ball again. Sorry, guys. But I’m back, & once again I’m aiming at updating more regularly. I actually did some drawing while I’ve been away but neglected to upload it.
I didn’t have a lot of time these past few days, but I had a little window this morning, so gesture drawings it was!
The past few days have been really busy, and I’m sorry for not updating! However, I have definitely been drawing at least a little everyday. In this post, I’m including 3 days of gesture drawings (this past Friday, Saturday & Sunday) as well as some quick anatomical studies of the arm as you can see from above, which I drew from Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist.
Sorry, guys, I feel like I’ve barely had a chance to visit this blog the past couple days! I didn’t have a chance to update, but I have been working on gestures yet again. So, here are my drawings from Wednesday & Thursday this week.
Another busy weekend! I did have time for a longer drawing on Sunday & chose to draw another building – St. Ibb’s Church on the island of Ven (or Hven?), Sweden. I was here last fall & it was very pretty.
Last night was kind of a meh night for me for drawing – I only have 3 gesture drawings, which I’ll show below. To make up for my pathetic offering, I’m first starting with this drawing of a hand that I did at a work-related workshop today. I actually drew this one in light pencil first, then outlined & detailed with a few different Micron pens – including a “brush” pen, which I really liked for nice, thick lines. I guess this one turned out ok, but it’s probably not my best hand. I was kind of rushed, though.
Hoo boy, I chose a couple difficult positions for my mannikin drawings last night. I only did two – I had so little time, so it generally seems like on those kinds of nights, focusing on these &/or gestures is a good idea. Anyways, it was a bit rough. Some obscured limbs, not really seeing the shapes of the figure properly, etc.
Hello hello! I’m almost halfway through my month of daily drawing & daily music writing, & so far I’ve been keeping up. The fawn drawing above is what I did on Sunday – I drew it in pencil first & then detailed it in ink with my Micron pens. I think it turned out pretty decent, but one thing I had a hard time with was the fawn’s spots & color variations in its fur. I didn’t want to add too many pen strokes, but I still wanted to try & show where the color was darker, lighter, shading, etc. I also didn’t go for as bold of an outline as I have in the past.
I’ve been sick the past couple of days, hence the gesture drawings over the more time-consuming drawings. Tonight’s looking like another long night – I’m going to try & do something other than gestures (or something in addition to gestures) if I can get around to it. And I hope to get back to responding to comments & reading other peoples’ posts in a more timely manner soon!
