New Sakura Koi Watercolor Set & Some Lettering Practice

The word hello painted in watercolorIt’s always fun to get new art supplies! Some friends of mine gave me a Sakura Koi watercolor set (the travel-sized one with 12 colors), along with the water brush that came with it – I’ve never used one of those before. It’s super cute. Thanks, friends!

The first thing I did was a quick swatch to test out the colors:

Sakura Koi Watercolor SwatchThere’s also white paint included. But purple is not, so the grayish purple to the right was my attempt to create purple.

I’ve also been wanting to work on my lettering. I checked out some books from my local library on lettering and used them as references. My actual handwriting is pretty sloppy, so these lettering attempts are way better than what my writing usually looks like…

The “hello” above and the “Sakura Koi” were some of those attempts. Below are some more:
